Many traveling to be with family members for Thanksgiving holiday

People everywhere are traveling on Wednesday before the Thanksgiving holiday. NBC 5 spoke with multiple on the go in Rutland.Virginia Creighton lives in Brandon and has been taking the Amtrak line for the past seven years. “I plan to go to Albany to visit with my sister. And neither of us likes to cook. So we’re going to go to a Greek restaurant,” she said. “I draw. So I have a sketch pad, and I like to sketch on the way there, and sketch while I’m there, and then sketch on the way back. So it gives me a little extra time. And I beat the, most of the traffic. I think I’ll see what happens this time.”David Tinling was riding that same train and says he will be taking a connection to Rochester to be with his kids and grandkids there.”Before I retired, I had a hospital job in New York City, and I used to come up here every weekend, and then Sunday take the train down to New York City. And so we got in the habit of using the train,” he said. NBC 5 also spoke with travelers heading out on the road. Wayne Blackmer drives for the Vermont Translines and was taking passengers down to Albany. “It’s very hectic. You just got to keep it cool. Traffic is very rough,” he said. Blackmer said he will be working Thursday but will be able to see his family at the end of the day. “Thanksgiving is a special time for everybody, and it’s nice to get home to your families,” he said. Ashlee Fenhagen and her family are driving to Maine for the holiday and are making sure they get ahead of the weather. “My 4-year-old son is super excited to see his grandparents and cousins and aunts and uncles,” she said. “We’re really pumped about it, and it’s always nice to see family.”All the travelers we spoke with said they were excited to reach their destinations.
