Sip & Ski tours make tasty stops at vineyard, popular Up North restaurant

SUTTONS BAY, MI – Sometimes, Northern Michigan adventures are set up in such a cool way that you know how much fun you’ll have before you even get started.

Hats off to Grand Traverse Bike Tours, which has been arranging some winter guided events this year that pair fun, outdoor activities with local businesses like wineries, cideries and restaurants.

Their latest offering is Sip & Ski, a guided tour that will be held on two upcoming Sundays: Jan. 19 and Feb. 2. It combines a little cross-country skiing through scenic corridors with a little wine tasting, and then a warm lunch and refreshments at Farm Club, one of the most popular restaurants in the Traverse City area.

“If you’re looking for a winter adventure, this tour can’t be beat,” said Grand Traverse Bike Tours owner Nick Wierzba. “Skiing from winery to winery in the serene countryside —there’s nothing like it in all of the U.S.!”

This is a guided experience, so guests will be accompanied from site to site. A shuttle will take everyone back to their starting point at the end of the adventure.

The events will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 19 and Feb. 2. Tickets are $98 per person, and more details and reservations are available on the tour company website here. You can also call (231) 421-6815 for more information.

What’s included in a Sip & Ski adventure:

  • Guided cross-country ski tour on private vineyards and the groomed Leelanau Trail.
  • Cross-country ski, pole and boot rental.
  • Wine tasting at Shady Lane Cellars, a boutique winery known for its estate-grown wines.
  • Complimentary Wine Tour water bottle
  • A warm lunch at Farm Club, including made-in-house soup, fresh bread and a beverage.
  • Wine purchase pick-up and shuttle service back to the starting point.

Here’s how it works, according to the tour guides:

Participants will ski 5.1 miles along the groomed Leelanau Trail, led by professional guides.

The tour begins with a complimentary wine tasting at Shady Lane Cellars.

Afterward, skiers traverse the winery’s rolling vineyards before joining the flat, groomed Leelanau Trail. Along the way, guests will enjoy views of farms and the tranquil Leelanau countryside.

The journey concludes at Farm Club, a farm-to-table restaurant where guests will savor a hearty bowl of soup and a beverage.

Guests will be shuttled back to the starting point unless they choose to ski the return route for an extra challenge.

To note: This event is for adults 21+ and you’ll need to bring your ID on your adventure.

You’ll want to dress in warm layers. Insulated socks and gloves are a good idea, too. You’ll be outdoors for at least two hours.
