Airbnb reveals most popular summer travel spots for Canadians in 2025

The summer travel season is nearly here and Airbnb has released its top travel spots for Canadians.

Domestic travel continues to grow. In 2024, Canadian Airbnb hosts welcomed nearly nine million domestic guest arrivals, a more than 40 per cent increase since 2019, according to the summer trends report.

Global locations, such as cities across Europe, are also increasingly popular for summer travel, the report found.

The year’s top trending Canadian destinations highlight everything from pristine wilderness to coastal charm, the report found.

Here are the top Canadian travel spots for summer 2025:

• Magdalen Islands, Que. – Windswept beaches, dramatic cliffs and Acadian culture.
• La Haute-Gaspésie, Que.– Scenic drives and hiking trails along the St. Lawrence.
• Blue Mountain, Ont. – A year-round hub for outdoor fun and wellness.
• Matawinie, Que.– Lakes, forests and rustic cabins just north of Montreal.
• Waterton Park, Alta. – A rocky mountain gem with spectacular lakeside views.
• Algonquin Park, Ont. – The classic canoeing and camping escape.
• Falcon Lake, Man. – A local favourite for cabin retreats and water adventures.
• St. John’s, N.L. – Colourful heritage and maritime charm at Canada’s eastern edge.
• Hubbards, N.S. – A cozy coastal village with seafood and beaches galore.
• Winnipeg, Man. – A creative prairie city with culture, cuisine and nature access.

Canadians are also venturing further afield this summer, with trending international spots reflecting a growing appetite for culture, sunshine and global adventure, the report found.

These are the top international destinations:

• Thira, Greece – Iconic Santorini sunsets and stunning cliffside views.
• Mexico City, Mexico – Food, art and unmatched urban energy.
• Tokyo, Japan – Tradition meets technology in this dynamic capital.
• Bari, Italy – Coastal charm, Roman ruins and Mediterranean beaches.
• Nord de Palma District, Spain – A scenic slice of Mallorca magic.
• Marrakesh, Morocco – Colourful souks and desert escapes.
• Funchal, Portugal – Madeira’s cliffside capital surrounded by the sea.
• Cascais, Portugal – A chic seaside town near Lisbon.
• Chamonix, France – A storybook alpine village for summer hikes and fresh air.
• Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Where beach life, samba and mountains converge.

Airbnb Experiences has been relaunched. These are tours where travellers can explore cities with locals. Activities include cooking classes, walking and boat tours, wine tasting and photo walks.
