A Historic Landmark with Luxurious Accommodations

The Old War Office building, dating back to 1906, has witnessed significant historical events. Home to legendary figures like Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming, it’s steeped in intrigue and mystery. Today, the building has been meticulously restored and transformed into a luxurious five-star hotel, preserving its historic charm while offering modern amenities.

When I walked through the front doors, my eyes were greeted by the most grand staircase made of pure Italian marble — the very same staircase that stood when the building functioned as The Old War Office. A crystal chandelier worthy of its own space in an art gallery delicately hangs from the high ceiling, drawing your eyes upon the center balcony purposefully positioned as the focal point of the entry, where Churchill himself once stood to give his speeches to Britain’s most famous statesmen and spies. The Old War Office’s offices are now luxurious suites, transformed by skilled designers and craftspeople in a modern way while still maintaining the integrity of each room.

Raffles London offers a range of elegantly appointed rooms and suites across its 120 rooms, each with its own unique character. From the classic Edwardian-style rooms to the spacious suites with panoramic city views, there’s truly something to suit every taste and budget. The hotel’s interiors are designed by renowned architect Thierry Despont, creating a sophisticated and timeless atmosphere fit for a king.

World-Class Amenities

Raffles London at The OWO is a destination in itself, offering a variety of amenities to enhance your stay. The Guerlain Spa is a sanctuary of relaxation, featuring a jaw-dropping 20-meter pool (that must be seen with your own eyes), a state-of-the-art gym, and a range of rejuvenating treatments. During my stay at Raffles London, I experienced the Spirit of London treatment at the Guerlain Spa, which can only be described as pure relaxation. From the expert masseuse to the luxe Guerlain products, getting a massage at their spa is truly for lovers of luxury. After my treatment, I opted to head to their relaxation lounge, where guests can find private beds with curtains for privacy and a self-service bar filled with water, teas, and healthy snacks.

Of course, I had to finish my experience at their indoor swimming pool to complete my serene spa day. The ambiance of the pool area is that of the most sophisticated dream, filled with peace and serenity with a magnificent double-height ceiling, tranquil fireplace, lounge chairs encircling the pool, and friendly staff at your beck-and-call for refreshments. If you want to live like royalty in London, this hotel and its wellness amenities are the epitome of just that.

Cuisine Fit for a King and Queen

For dining, the hotel boasts a collection of nine restaurants and three bars, including The Guards Bar, The Spy Bar, and Kioku Bar. The Spy Bar, a hidden gem within the hotel, offers a unique and atmospheric experience. Step into this clandestine speakeasy, reminiscent of the secret service operations that once took place within the Old War Office building, and even inspiring the iconic tales of James Bond. Enjoy expertly crafted cocktails, fine wines, and a touch of intrigue in this exclusive and intimate setting.

As for the property’s cuisine cue Saison, an all-day dining restaurant that offers a relaxed Mediterranean-inspired menu, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Enjoy fresh seafood, grilled meats, and delicious salads in a stylish and comfortable setting. The hotel also features three exclusive restaurants by acclaimed chef Mauro Colagreco. These restaurants offer a unique culinary experience, showcasing the chef’s innovative and flavorful cuisine.

Enjoy afternoon tea in The Drawing Room, an elegant lounge featuring a selection of fine teas, pastries, and sandwiches. Or head to Pillar Kitchen, a casual eatery offering healthy and nutritious food, perfect for a quick bite or light meal, or post-spa snack. Café Lapérouse is a charming French café serving classic French cuisine, including pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. The property’s Michelin-starred restaurant is Kioku by Endo Kazutoshi, offering exceptional Japanese-inspired cuisine, showcasing the talents of renowned chef Endo Kazutoshi. While Paper Moon is a stylish Italian restaurant with a contemporary take on classic Milanese cuisine.

Whether you’re craving a Michelin-starred meal or a casual cocktail, there’s something to satisfy every palate, allowing you to get the most out of your stay in London without ever having to leave the hotel.

The hotel’s design is the work of renowned architect Thierry Despont, who has created a truly unique and personal living environment.

The building that houses 45 Park Lane also has a fascinating past, once serving as the glamorous “hutch on the park,” London’s very first Playboy Club and casino. Originally designed by Walter Gropius, a renowned Bauhaus architect, the building has served as a private residence, a Playboy Club, and now a luxurious hotel. Today, it’s a cherished gem in the Dorchester Collection, offering a unique blend of exclusivity, history, and modern luxury.

The hotel’s 45 spacious rooms and suites all feature stunning views of Hyde Park, and each floor showcases a curated art collection, making the property a living canvas for contemporary British art. The hotel’s ever-evolving collection features works by renowned artists, including their current collection featuring Albert Irvin’s colorful, expression-filled abstract works, creating a stimulating and inspiring atmosphere.

The prestigious property offers a range of luxury suites, each with its own distinct features and amenities, featuring modern décor, luxurious amenities, and stunning views. During my stay, I was wowed by the stunning suite I stayed in (spacious doesn’t even begin to describe the impeccable room, with a living room, dining area, bedroom, and entry hall large enough to run laps in), featuring windows lining each wall overlooking Hyde Park, a magnificent marble bathroom, a luxe king bed complete with a TV that can be controlled to turn in any direction you please, and blinds that can be lowered and lifted straight from your bedside panel. One of the most sought-after suites at the property is The Penthouse Terrace Suite, a spacious suite that features a wraparound terrace with panoramic views of the London skyline — the perfect choice for those seeking the ultimate in luxury.

But luxury isn’t just about impeccable service (albeit important); it’s also about indulging in the finer things. Dive into Wolfgang Puck’s CUT at 45 Park Lane, the hotel’s signature restaurant — and Wolfgang Puck’s first European restaurant — and savor a Michelin-starred culinary journey. You are in for an extraordinary dining experience here, featuring an incredible menu and some of the best cuisine in the city, in my humble opinion.

One of the highlights of my stay was dining at CUT. The restaurant’s ambiance is stylish and sophisticated, and the food is exceptional. I started with Wolfgang Puck’s Crab & Lobster Roll, which was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. For my main course, I had the Japanese Pure A5 Wagyu Beef Filet Mignon with Australian Black Truffle, which was cooked to perfection. The sides were equally delicious, and the wine list was extensive. This modern American steakhouse offers a vibrant atmosphere and delicious food to create the perfect recipe for a night well spent in England’s capital.

For a more intimate affair, head to BAR 45, a sophisticated space where handcrafted cocktails and vintage Negronis flow freely. Art lovers will be in paradise here, with the works of contemporary British artists adorning the walls and filling every corner with creative energy.

A truly exceptional dining experience can also be had at Sushi Kanesaka, another Michelin-starred restaurant located within 45 Park Lane. This exclusive venue offers a journey through Japanese refinement, with a focus on the freshest ingredients and impeccable technique. Savor the delicate flavors and exquisite presentation of each dish, and immerse yourself in the serene and elegant atmosphere of this hidden gem.

This iconic hotel, steeped in history, has recently undergone a stunning multi-million-pound renovation, making it a more luxurious and stylish retreat than ever before, revitalizing its Art Deco grandeur. This grand reintroduction coincides with the hotel’s 10th anniversary, marking a new chapter under the leadership of CEO Stuart Procter.

Step Back in Time with Art Deco Elegance

The building that houses The Beaumont Mayfair has an intriguing history. Originally built in 1925 as one of the first car parks for shoppers, it was designed by esteemed architects Wimperis and Simpson. Today, the facade — with its grand colonnaded entrance — is a Grade II listed building, a testament to its architectural significance.

Walking into The Beaumont Mayfair feels like stepping back into the glamorous 1920s. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I was captivated by the Art Deco elegance. The interiors, designed by the late French architect Thierry Despont, are a masterpiece. But the Beaumont isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also a treasure trove of art. Over 600 pieces spanning the 20th and 21st centuries adorn the walls, curated by the renowned Zuleika Gallery. You might find yourself brushing shoulders with works by Georges Braque or Joan Miró during your stay.

Rooms Worthy of Being in an Art Gallery

The hotel boasts 101 unique rooms and suites, including the iconic ROOM by sculptor Anthony Gormley — an inhabitable work of art, and most definitely a conversation starter. This three-story structure offers a unique accommodation experience, combining art and architecture. The bedroom is fully made of wood panels, giving the illusion of sleeping inside a treehouse-like structure, with dimly lit lights illuminating the bed and walls.

Each of the 101 rooms and suites at The Beaumont is a unique haven. They feature original artwork, opulent marble bathrooms, and all the contemporary comforts you’d expect from a five-star hotel. My suite was the definition of grandeur, both spacious and luxurious, with stunning views of the beautiful street in which The Beaumont Mayfair is situated. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was beautifully appointed. The room was complete with a grand living area featuring a TV hidden within the center console of the living room and enough seating to entertain, with an entry hall and a large marble bathroom fit for royalty.

The Beaumont Mayfair is also a haven for gourmands. From the sophisticated afternoon tea in Gatsby’s Room to the extensive Bourbon collection at Le Magritte Bar, there’s something to tempt every palate. This September the property launched a new flagship restaurant, Rosi, celebrating the best of British comfort food. Luke Edward Hall, the talented British artist and designer, breathed innovative life into the space with his vibrant murals. His signature style tells the story of “a day in London” through a lens of irreverent romanticism, creating a captivating atmosphere.

The first thing that hits you is the lobby. With gold detailing, crystal chandeliers, and beautiful artwork, The Dorchester captured my heart from the moment I arrived. Think grand, opulent, and dripping with quintessential British charm. It sets the tone for your entire stay, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a bygone era of sophistication.

You can even pop into the on-site Cake & Flowers boutique for a decadent treat or a unique London souvenir — a favorite amenity of mine at The Dorchester!

A Storied Past

The Dorchester’s history is as rich and fascinating as its present. Originally built in 1792, the property served as the American Embassy before being transformed into a hospital during World War I. In 1931, Sir Robert McAlpine acquired the building and embarked on a major renovation to create the “perfect hotel.” The result was a stunning Art Deco masterpiece that quickly established itself as one of London’s most prestigious addresses.

The Dorchester has a long history of hosting notable celebrities and dignitaries. From iconic Hollywood stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn to royalty such as Princess Diana, the hotel has welcomed a diverse range of VIPs over the years. The hotel’s reputation for discretion and exceptional service has made it a popular choice for those seeking a luxurious and private retreat. The Dorchester’s legacy is not only defined by its famous guests but also by its commitment to excellence. The hotel’s staff is renowned for their impeccable service, and the property’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the guest experience.

But The Dorchester is so much more than just a place to sleep. It’s a full-on sensory experience. The Dorchester is renowned for its exceptional dining experiences. Take afternoon tea at The Promenade, a London institution renowned for its fluffy scones and melt-in-your-mouth pastries. Imagine gossiping with your girlfriends over perfectly brewed tea, surrounded by the gentle hum of conversation and clinking china.

The hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurants, including Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester and The Grill by Tom Booton, offer innovative menus featuring the finest seasonal ingredients.
